Children’s Day at Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College Hospital & Research Institute
Children’s Day is celebrated in India to raise awareness about the rights, education, and welfare of children. It is celebrated on 14 November every year on the birthday of the first prime minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru, who was known to have been fond of children.
The Department of Paediatrics successfully organized Children’s Day and Prematurity Day celebrations on 18th November, 2025 through a series of meaningful activities promoting child welfare, awareness, and community engagement.
As part of the outreach initiative, faculty members and residents visited a nearby orphanage- Mathrubhoomi Seva Foundation, Channapatna, where a joyful programme was arranged for the children. The visit included a cake-cutting ceremony, distribution of snacks, and interactive sessions that brought smiles to the children and reinforced the department’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups beyond the hospital.
A formal function was also conducted on campus, with Dr. Nanjaraj C. P., Vice Principal, gracing the event as Chief Guest. The programme was inaugurated by watering a plant, symbolizing growth, care, and hope. The event featured a variety of cultural activities, including games, skits, and dance performances by undergraduate students as well as children, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere.
A speech on prematurity was delivered by Dr. Siddu B. N., emphasising the challenges faced by premature infants and the importance of early intervention and awareness.
A poster presentation competition was organised for undergraduate students, and prizes were awarded to the best entries, encouraging creativity, academic interest, and student participation. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sriranjini K., acknowledging the efforts of all contributors.
These programmes were made possible through the continuous guidance and support of the Head of the Paediatrics Department, Dr. Prathiba N. D., whose leadership ensured smooth coordination and overall success. The celebrations were well received and strengthened the department’s commitment to paediatric care, education, and community outreach.
Commendations to the Department of Paediatrics for their dedicated efforts. We look forward to more such impactful initiatives in the future.
