Decoding the Breath: A Clinical Approach to PFT Interpretation

Department of Physiology organised a Guest lecture on the topic, “Decoding the Breath: A Clinical Approach to PFT Interpretation” on 16th April from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Lecture Hall, Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College, Hospital and Research Institute, Channapatna. This session was organized for the students and faculty with the objective of enhancing clinical understanding in respiratory physiology.

The guest speaker for the session was Dr. B. V. Muralimohan MBBS, MD (Gen med), MRCP(UK), Senior Consultant Pulmonologist, Mazumdar Shaw Medical Centre (MSMC), Narayana Health City, Bengaluru, who shared his expertise on the topic.The session was smoothly coordinated by the Master of Ceremonies, Dr. Mahanya, Tutor, Department of Physiology.The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Sowmiya R, Professor, Department of physiology followed by a formal introduction of the speaker by Dr. Kirthana, Associate Professor, Department of physiology.

Dr. Muralimohan, delivered an insightful and clinically oriented lecture, focusing on the interpretation of Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs) and their application in diagnosing respiratory conditions. The talk emphasized practical approaches, case-based understanding, and real-world clinical correlations, making the session highly engaging and informative.

Following the lecture, the speaker was felicitated by the Dignitaries, as a token of appreciation. This was followed by launch of new Whatsapp/Instagram based channel “PhysioConnect” by the speaker along with the Heads of Departments, marking an important initiative for the students across Karnataka to enhance their knowledge and application in case-based scenarios and reasoning-based questions.

An interactive session titled “Breath Talk” was moderated by Dr. Yogesh M K Professor & Head Department of Physiology, where students actively engaged with the speaker, clarified their doubts, and gained deeper insights into the subject.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sudarshan, Professor, expressing gratitude to the speaker and all the contributors for the program. The session ended with the National Anthem.

The event proved to be a grand success, enabling both faculty and students to broaden their clinical knowledge and understanding. We look forward to many more such insightful academic sessions in the future.
