HIV Awareness Program 2026
Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College Hospital & Research Institute (SCMCH&RI) conducted an HIV Awareness Programme on 19th August 2026, bringing together students from MBBS, Nursing, Paramedical, and Allied Health Sciences for an informative and engaging session on HIV prevention, testing, and responsible healthcare practices.
The programme was organised by the ART Centre, SCMCH&RI, in collaboration with the District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU), Ramanagara. The event was chaired by Dr. Shashikiran, DAPCU In-charge and District TB Officer, Bengaluru South, and was attended by Principal Dr. Pravin, Dr. Yashaswini M.K., HoD, Department of Microbiology, Dr. Niranjan Murthy, ART In-charge, Dr. Raju, Ramanagara ART Centre In-charge, and Mrs. Nalini, DAPCU Coordinator.
The session commenced with an address by Dr. Shashikiran, who highlighted the prevalence of HIV, its modes of transmission, and the importance of adopting appropriate preventive measures. He also introduced the “Know Your HIV Status” initiative, encouraging students to make use of QR codes displayed in public spaces to access information related to HIV testing.
Mrs. Nalini emphasised the importance of HIV awareness among young healthcare professionals and encouraged students to actively participate in competitions and awareness initiatives organised by KSAPS (Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society) to promote knowledge and advocacy.
As a gesture of appreciation for their contributions to public health awareness, Dr. Shashikiran and Mrs. Nalini were felicitated by Principal Dr. Pravin and other dignitaries. The programme also featured the screening of HIV awareness videos, reinforcing key messages related to prevention, testing, stigma reduction, and responsible healthcare practices.
The programme provided students with valuable insights into HIV prevention and the appropriate measures to be taken in the event of potential exposure. The interactive session strengthened their understanding of HIV and reinforced the importance of approaching the subject with knowledge, compassion, and responsibility as future healthcare professionals.
The programme concluded on a positive note, with students appreciating the practical and informative nature of the session and its relevance to their professional responsibilities.
