Teachers’ Day Symposium on “Evolving Pedagogies & The Teacher’s Journey”
On September 5, 2026, the Medical Education Unit (MEU) at Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College Hospital & Research Institute hosted a Teachers’ Day Academic Symposium titled “Evolving Pedagogies & The Teacher’s Journey” from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The event created a vibrant platform to reflect on shifting instructional paradigms in healthcare education while honouring the dedication of teachers across all levels. The morning began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge, in the presence of dignitaries including Principal Dr. Pravin G.U. The program was coordinated by Dr. Yashaswini M.K., MEU Coordinator and Head of Microbiology, and a warm welcome address delivered by Dr. Kruthi B.N., Associate Professor of Biochemistry.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Yashaswini emphasized the need for medical teaching to adapt to evolving student demographics, technological advances, and competencybased curricula, outlining objectives such as evaluating active learning strategies, exploring crossdisciplinary methods, and fostering collaboration.
The technical program featured an integrated keynote and workshop led by a visiting team from RajaRajeswari Medical College & Hospital—Dr. Leena Raveendra, Dr. Nalini M., and Dr. Sowmya S.—who energized participants with debates on traditional versus CBME teaching, dumb charades on teachinglearning methods, oneminute talks with creative twists, and interactive Mentimeter polls.
The symposium then transitioned into a crosssectoral panel, “Voices Across the Spectrum”, which brought diverse perspectives: Ms. S.M. Poornima, Anganwadi educator, spoke on empathy and habit formation in early childhood learning; Mr. K. Narayana, psychology and school education expert, discussed adolescent cognitive development and classroom engagement; Dr. Sharath K.P.M., Assistant Professor of Naturopathy & Yogic Sciences, highlighted mindbody wellness and stress management; and Dr. Sowmya creatively illustrated how medical education, despite evolving terminology, remains rooted in the timeless teacherstudent relationship. The panel was coordinated by Dr. Yogesh M.K., HOD of Physiology, who engaged the speakers with rapidfire questions.
The symposium concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Principal Dr. Pravin G.U., followed by a felicitation ceremony where all six guest speakers were honoured with certificates and tokens of appreciation. Gratitude was extended to the management, department heads, organizing committee, and support staff for their seamless coordination.
The event proved to be a memorable celebration of Teachers’ Day at SCMCH&RI— one that not only honoured educators but also reaffirmed the evolving landscape of pedagogy in medical education.
