Symposium on “Advances in Women’s Health”

The Scientific Committee of Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College Hospital & Research Institute (SCMCH&RI), in collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, successfully organized a Symposium on “Advances in Women’s Health” on 6th March 2026 at the ACS Auditorium, in commemoration of International Women’s Day.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 130 attendees, including Heads of Departments, faculty members, students, and support staff. The symposium aimed to highlight recent advancements in women’s healthcare, with focused discussions on cardiovascular emergencies, robotic surgery, HPV vaccination, and musculoskeletal health in women.

The program commenced at 9:30 AM with a warm welcome address by Dr. Deepa, setting the tone for a day of academic enrichment. The symposium was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Chief Patron Dr. A.C. Shanmugam, Patron Sri A.C.S. Arun Kumar, Managing Trustee Smt. Lalithalakshmi, Executive Director Dr. S. Vijayanand, Principal Dr. Pravin G.U., along with other distinguished administrators and faculty members.

The academic sessions featured eminent experts from various specialties. Dr. Bhuvana Krishna, Professor and Head of the Department of Critical Care Medicine at St. John’s Medical College and Hospital, delivered an insightful session on “Cardiovascular Emergencies Unique to Women” through a pre-recorded presentation, addressing gender-specific risk factors and preventive strategies.

Dr. Lavanya Kiran, Director and Lead Consultant in OBG, Reproductive Medicine and Robotics at KIMS Hospitals, presented on the topic “From scalpel to console: evolution of robotic surgery”, highlighting advancements in minimally invasive techniques and improved patient outcomes.

Dr. Mahalakshmi Pendurthi, a distinguished Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Currently serving as a consultant at Rainbow Hospitals. provided valuable updates on HPV vaccination and screening strategies, while Dr. Sindhu B, a skilled and dedicated orthopaedic surgeon, working as Consultant at Apollo BGS, spoke on “Strong Joints Strong Women: A Clinical Perspective” musculoskeletal health in women, emphasizing preventive care and lifestyle modifications.

An engaging panel discussion titled “Threads of Strength: Women’s Journey Between Dreams and Duties”, moderated by Dr. Lavanya Kiran and Dr. Vasanthakumar, encouraged meaningful dialogue on balancing professional and personal responsibilities, and was well received by the audience.

The event concluded with the felicitation of guest speakers and a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Monica, followed by the National Anthem.Overall, the symposium was a great success, providing a platform for knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaboration. The Scientific Committee, in association with the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, continues to remain committed to organizing such impactful academic initiatives in the future.
