Guest Lecture on “Development, Classification and Applied Aspects of Craniofacial Clefts”
The Departments of Anatomy, Surgery, and Paediatrics co-organized a Guest Lecture on the topic “Development, Classification and Applied Aspects of Craniofacial Clefts” on 26th May 2026, conducted in two sessions:
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM for Junior MBBS students & 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM for Senior MBBS students.
The event was presided over by Dr. Naveen S, Medical Director, SCMCH&RI, Dr. Pravin G. U., Principal, SCMCH&RI, Dr. Manjula Patil, Vice Principal, SCMCH&RI, along with the Heads of the three organizing departments, Dr. N. M. Suresh, Dr. M. L. Ramachandra, Dr. Prathiba respectively.
The institution had the privilege of hosting the renowned guest speaker, Dr. S. A. Subramani, Senior Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Dr. Ranjini from the Department of Paediatrics, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. Dr. Rohini Y. N., Associate Professor, Department of Anatomy, introduced the guest speaker and highlighted his contributions to the field of craniofacial and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. S.A. Subramani delivered an informative and insightful lecture on the developmental Anatomy and classification of cranial clefts. He elaborated on the embryologically basis of facial clefts, various classification systems, associated congenital anomalies and the importance of early diagnosis and multidisciplinary management including recent advances in craniofacial surgery. The session also highlighted the role of anatomy in understanding complex craniofacial deformities and emphasized the importance of coordinated care involving surgeons, paediatrician, radiologists and rehabilitation teams.
As a mark of appreciation, the guest speaker was felicitated by the dignitaries present on the dais.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Shilpa, Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, expressing gratitude to the guest speaker, dignitaries, faculty members, and students for their participation and support in making the event a success.
