Health Education Session on Mindful Eating and Antenatal Care at Kadloor

A health education program on “Mindful eating and Antenatal care” for antenatal mothers was organized at Kadloor PHC on 23rd September 2026 by the Department of Community Medicine, Shri Chamundeshwari Medical College. The program commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Aradhya, Medico Social Worker, Shri Chamundeshwari Medical College, who welcomed the antenatal mothers, staff and introduced the resource person.

The session was conducted by Dr. Manuja, Professor, Department of Community Medicine. Dr. Manuja delivered an interactive and participatory health education session focusing on mindful eating during pregnancy. She explained the concept of mindful eating – eating with attention, without distractions, chewing slowly and recognizing hunger and satiety cues. She demonstrated how to eat mindfully and actively involved the pregnant women by asking them to practice the same using the given food items. She elaborated on the ideal composition of an
antenatal food plate, emphasizing inclusion of cereals and millets, pulses and sprouts, green leafy vegetables, seasonal fruits, milk and milk products, and nuts like groundnut, and explained the importance of small frequent meals, adequate water intake and regular intake of IFA and calcium tablets.

The session also addressed common myths related to pregnancy and diet. The mothers participated enthusiastically, raised several doubts and questions which were clarified by Dr. Manuja in simple local language, making the program highly interactive. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Bhargavi, Medical Officer, Kadloor PHC, who thanked Dr. Manuja for the informative session, Mr. Aradhya for organizing, and all the antenatal mothers and PHC staff for their active participation and cooperation.
