Pedagogy Competition at KMC, Manipal

The Department of Physiology is proud to share that our students participated in the Dr. A. Krishna Rao Memorial Medical Physiology Pedagogy Competition, held at Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal on 2nd April 2025. The theme for this year’s competition was “Physio Vitals: Pulse of Progressive Pedagogy”, aimed at promoting innovative teaching approaches and enhancing pedagogical skills among medical students.
To identify the most suitable representatives for our institution, a mock presentation round was conducted for advanced learners from the 1st and 2nd MBBS batches. Dr. Yogesh M.K, Head of the Department, and Dr. Puneeth M, Professor, served as judges to select the best team.
Following the selection process, Mr. Abhishek Annappa Dharigouda and Ms. Neha Duggireddy Surakkagari Reddy, both 2nd MBBS students, were chosen to represent our college. The students received dedicated training sessions under the mentorship of Dr. Yogesh M.K and Dr. Sowmiya R., focusing on refining both content and presentation delivery.
The students selected the topic: “Visual Pathway & Its Lesions: Physiology Behind Our Sight”, and captivated the audience with a creative and hands-on demonstration. They used coloured paper strategically placed on their clothing to mimic various visual field defects, offering a vivid and memorable explanation of complex physiological concepts. This innovative approach was well received and appreciated by the audience and judges alike.
The competition featured participation from multiple medical colleges. It was conducted in two phases—preliminary and final rounds, with teams divided into three groups by lottery. Our students were placed in Group A, alongside eight other teams. Each presentation was judged by an expert panel on parameters such as content depth, accuracy, delivery, clarity, innovation, and audience engagement.
Though our team did not secure a winning spot, Mr. Abhishek and Ms. Neha shared that the experience was immensely valuable. It exposed them to a variety of creative teaching methodologies and provided a platform to witness and learn from peers across institutions.
Participation certificates were awarded to all attendees, and the event was a true celebration of learning, collaboration, and educational innovation.
Kudos to our students for their hard work, dedication, and creativity, and we look forward to encouraging more such participations in the future.
