PG Orientation Program 2026
The Postgraduate Orientation Programme was successfully conducted on Monday, 30th March 2026 at Sri Chamundeshwari Medical College, Hospital & Research Institute (SCMCH&RI), Channapatna. The event was held from 9:15 AM to 1:30 PM, designed to welcome newly joined postgraduate students and provide them with essential guidance for their academic journey.
The program began with a welcome address, icebreaking activities, and an overview of the PG academic framework by Dr. Yashaswini M.K, MEU Coordinator and Professor & Head of Microbiology. She set the tone for the day by introducing the structure of postgraduate academics, expectations, and the importance of teamwork.
This was followed by an address by the Principal, Dr. Pravin G.U, who emphasized the vision of the institution, professionalism, and the role of PGs in upholding academic and clinical standards. Dr. Naveen S. Medical Director, then spoke on professionalism and hospital etiquette, highlighting the importance of discipline, patient respect, and ethical conduct in hospital settings.
Dr. Vasanth Kumar, PG Committee Chairperson and Professor & Head of OBG, delivered a session on PG rules and regulations as per NMC guidelines (2023), coupled with effective communication skills. He explained the framework of postgraduate training, assessment methods, and the critical role of communication in patient care and academic collaboration.
The orientation continued with Dr. Vidyullatha V. Shetty, Professor & Head of Forensic Medicine, who spoke on documentation of medical records and the role of consent in medical practice. She stressed the medicolegal importance of accurate documentation and the ethical/legal implications of consent.
Dr. Dharani V.C, Professor & Head of Pathology, provided an orientation to laboratory medicine, explaining the workflow of diagnostic labs, sample handling, and the PG’s role in ensuring quality results. Dr. Megha S, Infection Control Officer and Associate Professor of Microbiology, followed with a session on IPC practices and biomedical waste management, emphasizing infection control protocols, safe disposal of biomedical waste, and compliance with hospital safety standards.
The highlight of the day was the session on stress management and mental wellbeing for residents, delivered by Dr. Shivakumar B.K, Professor & Head of Psychiatry. He addressed common challenges faced by PGs, strategies for coping with stress, maintaining mental health, and balancing academic and personal life. The program concluded with wrapup and closing remarks by MEU Coordinator, summarizing the day’s learning and encouraging PGs to actively engage in their training.
The orientation was wellreceived, with PGs appreciating the structured sessions, practical guidance, and supportive environment. It set a strong foundation for their postgraduate journey, ensuring clarity, confidence, and commitment to excellence.
