Community Medicine Department
Community Medicine is a branch of Medicine which deals with promotion of health and prevention of diseases, involving people’s participation, utilizing professional management skills. It facilitates in developing a holistic view of health and medical interventions primarily focused on Community Health/Population Health. It provides us with knowledge, skills, competencies in primary, secondary & tertiary care, control and prevention of outbreaks/epidemics, community diagnosis, health needs assessment, epidemiological assessment, research and planning evidence-based health policies and programmes.
At the end of the course, the student should be able to
- Describe the epidemiological methods and techniques.
- Describe the socio demographic and environmental factors contributing to health and disease.
- Describe the health care delivery systems including rehabilitation of the disabled in the country.
- Describe the National Health Programmes with particular emphasis on maternal and child health programmes, family welfare planning and population control.
- Diagnose and manage common health problems and nutritional problems at the individual and community level.
- Plan, implement and evaluate a health education Programme / health camp for vulnerable and disadvantaged groups
- Use epidemiology as a scientific tool to make rational decisions relevant to community and individual patient intervention.
